Though the pawns in this game are familiar, the scenario is not. In this reality, one lone preacher--the Reverend Lawrence Tannerbrook--vanished from this world as his aircraft encountered a freakish, luminous storm en route to the site of his ministry's latest missionary station in the country of Mauritania, Africa. Five years later, the reverend returned to this world as mysteriously as he had left it...but something had changed. Having taken the name of Simon Meridius upon his rebirth, he rebuilt the remnants of his old ministry--the World Church of the Living Christ--in his own image...in his new, twisted, unholy and unfathomably powerful image.... Like a malignant cancer, the Ministry of Light has spread deep into the breast of civilization, preaching love and deliverance from the many sins of the world, an all too convincing guise to conceal the perfidy and atrocity committed in supplication to the Ministry's infernal lords. The cult points to Heaven as it leads its flock into Hell's maw, and those who oppose the Ministry in its course are swept away in the darkness of night, nevermore to stand against the teachings of His Living Sacrity, Simon Meridius. To the unbeliever, death comes.
Well, to almost all of them....
Though among the numbers of the Ministry may be found any number of supernaturals, the same could be said of their opponents. Some oppose the Ministry out of desire to crush the blasphemy and sacrilege which courses through the very veins of the cult. Others seek vengeance for others or for themselves, hellbent on paying tit for tat for a grievous crime perpetrated against them. And as the motives vary from greed to revenge to noble idealism, so vary the many paranormal denizens of the World of Darkness drawn into the clash.... The Ministry of Light serves some ultimate, unholy and mephistophelean purpose which can never be named-- saved by Simon Meridius himself--and with each passing day they grow all the more powerful. The door which they wish to open can never be closed again, and come that time all that exists in this world and the next shall be threatened once more. Either move against the Minstry and stop them--even if it costs you all that you have and all that you are--or serve them and ensure that you are near the top of the food chain when Doomsday arrives....
Make no mistake: you are doomed and you are damned, as you were from the moment you heard their name, the moment you read their pamphlets, the moment you submitted to their initiation rites, the moment you found your family's defiled corpses, the moment you ate of their flesh and drank of their blood. The moment you drew the notice of some dark elder god. Your previous life is gone. There is only the Ministry.
That which does not kill you will make you wish it had. |
